Sports Medicine

Sports Medicine studies the effect of physical activity on the human body, both from the perspective of injury prevention and treatment and from the monitoring of cardiovascular and metabolic benefits provided by exercise. It is a key specialty for athletes of all levels, from federated to those starting physical activity.

Fontanet Medicina i Fisioterapia is a centre accredited by the Departament de Salut of the Generalitat de Catalunya and by the Catalan Football Federation for Type 1 sports medical examinations and stress tests. We serve individual athletes, clubs and federations across the province of Tarragona.

The sports medical examination is mandatory for obtaining a federation licence in most sports in Catalonia. Its purpose is to detect conditions that could pose a risk during sports practice, especially silent heart diseases that can cause sudden death in apparently healthy athletes.

In addition to the regulatory examination, we offer sports performance assessments with stress testing for training planning by heart rate zones. We have an accredited mobile unit that travels directly to sports clubs to carry out on-site examinations.
