Pediatric Neurology

Pediatric Neurology (neuropaediatrics) deals with diseases of the nervous system in childhood, from the neonatal period through to adolescence. Unlike adult neurology, it pays special attention to neurodevelopment — how the child's brain matures — and the interferences that any disease can cause on this process.

The range of conditions seen by the neuropaediatrician is very wide: attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), epilepsy, childhood headaches and migraines, tics and Tourette syndrome, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), psychomotor developmental delays, cerebral palsy, learning disorders (dyslexia, dyscalculia), sleep disorders and neuromuscular diseases.

At Fontanet Medicina i Fisioterapia we have Dr. Maria José Mas, a neuropaediatrician with extensive clinical experience and recognized work in child neurodevelopment education. The neuropaediatric consultation includes a thorough assessment of the child's neurological development, detailed neurological examination, ordering of complementary tests when needed (EEG, neuroimaging, blood tests) and an individualized follow-up plan.

We work in coordination with our speech therapy service to offer a comprehensive approach for children whose neurological difficulties present with language or communication impairments.
